Property Settlement-Shandong China, 1979
Scope and Contents
Correspondence between Irene Hanson and representatives of the United States government detailing a legal settlement regarding property in China once owned by her and Perry Hanson. Whilst working for the Presbyterian mission in Shangdong China, Perry Hanson bought land and operated a photography developing store. As a result of the Communist Party of China's successful overthrow of the Kuomintang nationalist government, Perry Hanson's land was expropriated for use by the newly formed People's Republic of China, as was Irene Hanson's car. Upon the normalization of relations between the PRC and the USA Irene Hanson's lawyers negotiated for Hanson to receive a small financial settlement for her and her husbands collective losses as part of a broader settlement between the two nations.
