Scope and Contents
This series includes photographs of Kopetski with various constituents of Oregon’s Fifth District taken during the years 1991-1995. The Fifth District is comprised of Lincoln, Marion, Polk and Tillamook counties as well as part of Benton, Clackamas and Multnomah counties. These photographs are accompanied by the letter sent with them to the constituent. A number of the photographs were taken when the Capital Dome statue, “Liberty,” was removed for cleaning. The letters explain that this was a historic event because the statue had never been removed before. A list of those in the photographs is available upon request.
There are also photographs of routine visits made by Kopetski during campaign stops or visits to the Fifth District. The notable exception is a photographic record of Operation Provide Comfort that began in April 1991 to provide humanitarian relief to Kurds displaced by the government of Iraq. This photographic record was presented to Kopetski by the Oregon Army National Guard - 206th Transportation Detachment and 2186th Maintenance Company, who were involved in the operation. Included in the photographs are General Colin Powell and Senator Patrick Leahy.
