Scope and Contents

The Morton Peck papers contain photographs of Peck's travels, illustrations of fungi and slime molds, as well as ephemera collected by Peck during his lifetime and throughout his tenure as a Professor of biology at Willamette University. Also included is the flower press used by Peck to preserve his specimens.

Biographical Note

Morton Peck was born in Iowa in 1871. In 1908 he became a professor of biology at Willamette University and taught until 1941. His scholarly explorations spanned from Cape Lookout on the Oregon Coast to the Three Sisters area in Central Oregon. It was through these excursions that Peck was able to assemble his Manual of the Higher Plants of Oregon still the only complete published guide to flora of the entire state. Peck died on December 5, 1959.
