Alfred J. French collection of Willamette University Memorabilia
Scope and Contents
Alfred French was an undergraduate student at Willamette University between 1928 and 1932. Included in his collection are items related to his on-campus experience. These include a 1929 initiation paddle for the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity, Track and Field and Football materials, and a green freshman beanie. Also included are materials from the 50th, 55th, and 60th class reunions.

Biographical Note
Alfred J. French was born in Falls City, Oregon on January 4th 1910. He spent his youth attending school in Salem, later graduating from Willamette University in 1932. In 1937, Alfred completed an internship at the University of Oregon medical school, after which he established a medical practice in Coos Bay. There, Alfred met Janet Stowell. They married in 1939. Between 1942 and 1945, Alfred served as a flight surgeon in the US Army Air Corps. He returned to Coos Bay in 1947. Alfred and Janet raised four children and Alfred remained at his medical practice until his retirement in 1985.

The Janet McCalley Stowell diary is a documentation of everyday life between 1890 and 1906. Janet McCalley Stowell was the grandmother of Alfred's wife Janet Stowell.
