Frank Conaway was a friend and English professor at Portland State University. He lived in Portland's Savier Street neighborhood where Rex and Diane Amos moved in 1966.

Graham Conroy was a professor of philosophy at Portland State University and friend of Amos. Amos gave him the philosophy of Preliminism after Conroy said it was impossible to give away a philosophy.
