Oak Salvage Oral History Project, 2021-2022

 Series
Identifier: Series V

Scope and Contents

The Oak Salvage Oral History project was conducted by students of Willamette University under the guidance of Prof. Karen Arabas. This project evolved in response to the February 2021 ice storm that affected Salem, OR and felled and damaged many Oregon white oaks (Quercus garryana), a culturally and ecologically significant indigenous tree species of the Willamette Valley. The project gathered stories from community members with connections to oak trees and donated samples of their fallen trees to the Oak Salvage project. The project follows the standards of the Oral History Association.
