Scope and Contents

This series contains papers, exams, correspondence, graduation and career materials from Douglas’ time in elementary school through the end of her career as an art therapist at Mental Health Services West in Portland, Oregon. Documents from her internships and case studies are also included, as well as a certificate of appreciation from the Salem Art Association and information regarding her death in October 1993.

Biographical / Historical

The San Francisco Art Institute, where Douglas received her Bachelors of Fine Arts and Masters of Fine Arts, was a private college of contemporary art in San Francisco, California. It opened in 1871 and closed in 2022. It was one of the oldest institutions of higher education dedicated to contemporary art in the United States.

Marylhurst College, where Douglas received her Masters in Art Therapy in the late 1980s, was a private, Catholic, liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1893, Marylhurst College was a womens’ college until 1974. The institution changed to Marylhurst University in 1998, becoming Clackamas County’s first university. The university closed its doors in 2018, after operating for over 120 years.
