Materials include background notes and drafts of Furtwangler's novel, Gift. Gift is set in Boston and New Brunswick. It is the story of a musically gifted mother, Felice, of a partially deaf child, Oliver. Furtwangler's preparatory work for this novel involved studying American Sign Language.

This subseries contains drafts of Furtwangler's unpublished novel House of Wisdom. She started the novel in 1983, and restarted it in 2003.
