Scope Note: The first gymnasium was a wooden structure built in 1909 that burned down in 1921. After that, another gymnasium was built. Students used the basement for theatrical productions as early as 1930. It was called the Willamette Playhouse from 1974. In 1979 it was renovated and renamed Kresge Theatre Playhouse after the foundation that funded the renovation. In 2012 it was once again renamed the M. Lee Pelton Theatre in honor of the departing president.
